NEW DELHI: A total of seven telecom operators filed application for the upcoming spectrum auctions which are expected to begin from October 1. Those in fray include the top three telcos – Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular – and also Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio Infocomm.
The last spectrum auctions had seen the government raise a record Rs 1.1 lakh crore, and it expects to top this in the upcoming round on account of the large amount of airwaves put up for sale.

Wednesday was the last day to file applications for the auctions, supposed to be held across seven bands. The other companies to have lined up are Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications, Aircel and Tata Tele.
The government will sell over 2,300 MHz spectrum across various bands, including airwaves in the 700 MHz frequency, which will see sale for the first time.
If all the spectrum is sold at the reserve price, the government will mop up at least Rs 5.6 lakh crore.
Telecom minister Manoj Sinha and Secretary JS Deepak have said that they expect healthy bidding in the upcoming auctions, where airwaves will be sold in the following bands – 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1,800 MHz, 2,100 MHz, 2,300 MHz and 2,500 MHZ.
