Discarded India opener Gautam Gambhir has been in this situation before. Days before the Indian selectors meet to pick the squad for a big Test series, Gambhir will get support to be picked in the team but the selectors ignore him. He last played almost two years ago, against England in August, 2014.
But in the ongoing Duleep Trophy, Gambhir has scored four back-to-back half-centuries and the fans wanted him to be back in the squad. The selectors didn’t think so. He once again missed making the cut in India’s squad for New Zealand series.
But the opener has responded to the snub with a tweet. He tweeted that though he is disappointed at missing out on making the squad, he is not defeated and will continue to fight for it.
The Delhi player said in his tweet that he “is cornered but not a coward and grit is his partner.” He also added that “his courage is his pride and he must fight.”
“I’m disappointed but not defeated; I’m cornered but not a coward. Grit my partner, courage my pride…for, I must fight, I must fight…” he tweeted.

The Indian squad for New Zealand Test series was picked on Monday and Gambhir failed to find a place in it. The fans were disappointed that an out-of-form Shikhar Dhawan was picked and Gambhir was ignored.
The Test series against New Zealand begins September 22 with the first match to be played in Kanpur.
