ABVP urges MHRD to set new edu policy
NAGPUR: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has urged the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to formulate a new education policy to renew the basic structure of education and stop its commercialization.
Addressing a press conference in the city on Monday, ABVP general secretary Vinay Bidre said the MHRD should create an autonomous education commission under the policy. “The last decade has seen education become more of a business, so a centralized policy is needed to stop this commercialization of education immediately,” he said.
He also said that regional languages should be included in the list of subjects to be made compulsorily from Std I. The demand was made in the backdrop of ministry’s decision to make English, maths and science compulsory from Std I itself.
Making a few suggestions, Bidre said, “The structure of the syllabus should be modified to include teachings of ayurveda, psychology, Sanskrit and other Indian languages.”
ABVP also proposed that bachelors, masters and PhD level teaching should be made available in Indian languages along with English. “The course should also be accessible, affordable and of better quality,” said Bidre while proposing more policies for examination reforms, administration, seat structure and reservation.
“The syllabus should focus on inculcating moral values and responsibility towards the country. It should ensure all-round development of student by increasing their self-confidence and shaping their skills in not just academics but also in sports, singing, dance and acting,” Bidre said and added, “Open distance education should also be initiated along with the traditional education methods.”

ABVP will also be organizing educational sessions at various parts of the country to spread awareness about the necessary policies and the different subjects available. Bidre said, “We will be meeting state education minister Vinod Tawde this month to discuss our policies.”
