CHENNAI: One is not doing a grave injustice to the country by studying or seeking jobs abroad, said Infosys founder Narayana Murthy here on Monday.
"There is nothing wrong in going abroad. In fact, I would say that a small part of competent Indians should go abroad and conduct themselves as worthy citizens of whichever country they adopt. Patriotism is not merely in singing the national anthem or by saluting the Indian flag, but by raising the image of the country on a global scale," he told the graduating students of Chennai Mathematical Institute.
Twenty undergraduate and 24 postgraduate degrees were conferred. Most of the students have secured places in foreign universities for further studies.
Miheer Ulhas Dewaskar, an MSc computer science graduate who won the CMI Gold Medal of Excellence said, "Most students who make a beeline to the institute have genuine passion towards mathematics. I had a free hand in selecting the courses I wanted to pursue that included probability and logic and verification. This is what makes the institute stand out."
Miheer is headed to North Carolina University, US, to pursue PhD in mathematics.
Institute director Rajeeva L Karandikar said he took pride in his students booking a berth in prestigious schools like Berkeley, Caltech, Chicago, Harvard, MIT, New York University and more.
