Triple jumper Renjith Maheshwari, sprinter Dharambir Singh, and Jinson Johnson are the latest addition to the list of athletes who have qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Maheshwari and Dharambir made national record in their respective events at Indian Grand Prix while Johnson made a cut for the men’s 800m event after clocking 1:45.98.
Maheshwari’s leap of 17.30 m over took previous best of Arpinder Singh who held a record of 17.17 m leap while Dharambir’s timing of 20.45s in the 200m came out to be better than that of his own timing of 20.66s.
The qualification mark for men’s 200m for the Rio Olympics was set at 20.50s.
For men’s trimple jump it was 16.85m.
The qualification standard for the 800m was 1:46.00s.
Dharambir Singh made him the first Indian male athlete to qualify for the 200m event at the Olympics in 36 years.
