The National Commission for Women Thursday issued summons to actor Salman Khan, asking him to appear before it on July 8 in connection with his rape remark. This comes a day after the actor failed to appear before the Maharashtra State Commission for Women, which had also summoned him.
The NCW warned that if Khan failed to appear before the panel, it would take “appropriate action as it deems fit”.
The NCW had earlier asked Khan to apologise for his rape analogy while referring to his gruelling shooting schedule for his latest film. “When I used to walk out of the ring after the shoot, I used to feel like a raped woman. I couldn’t walk straight,” he had said. While Khan replied to the notice, the panel said he was “unapologetic”.

The NCW’s notice on Thursday said it found that the actor was not willing to apologise for his remarks.
“Any voluntary activity such as you were involved in cannot be compared to ‘rape’. ‘Rape’ is an act of violence which violates the bodily integrity and dignity of women. As the commission has already conveyed to you, your statement undermines the experience of sexual assault against a woman which results in extremely serious physical and emotional/ mental consequences for her,” said the NCW.
It said the explanation offered by Khan “after making such an irresponsible and callous statement” does not amount to an apology and hence is unsatisfactory. “The Commission strongly condemns the use of such objectionable and sexist language which refers lightly to and undermines the seriousness of one of the most heinous offences against women.” it reads.
