DEHRADUN: Dehradun nagar nigam in a board meeting on Tuesday approved the revised smart city proposal, while also passing a budget of Rs 1.54 crore for developmental work in the city, including repairing of roads, drains and sewerage.

Talking to TOI about the smart city proposal, mayor Vinod Chamoli, said, “This is the third time that we are sending the proposal and this time we have redesigned the retrofitting proposal as per the recommendations of the ministry of urban development. The area has been reduced and I am very hopeful that this time we will make it to the list of smart cities.”

The nigam is also gearing up for monsoon. Amita Singh, councillor of Mohit Nagar, said, “We have asked the authorities to get sanitation workers on track. There are some areas where drains are being cleaned every week while some places are not even cleaned once in two months. During the monsoon, localities have to be cleaned regularly.”

The nigam has also decided to allot half an acre of land for a hospital to Maharaja Agrasen Charitable Trust which will cater to the financially weaker sections of the society.

The nagar nigam is also taking innovative steps to promote Swachh Bharat Mission in the city with the help of Hindustan Live Care Ltd and will install vending machines for sanitary napkins. The mayor said, “Currently, we are going to install the machines near two public toilets on a trial basis.” The cost of installing these machines will be approximately 60,000 rupees each and a sanitary napkin will cost Rs 10.”
