Former India cricket team director Ravi Shastri, in an interview with Times of India, said Sourav Ganguly should be asked what problem he has with him. “All I can say is that Ganguly wasn’t there when I was interviewed and you should ask what problem Ganguly has with me instead of asking me,” Shastri was quoted saying.
Shastri, in an interview with The Indian Express, had said the same. He said Ganguly was absent during his interview before the board to pick India’s new head coach. The other three members of the board were Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and BCCI convenor Sanjay Jagdale.

Team is higher than individuals: Anil Kumble to Ravi Shastri
“Meeting was great. Some great questions from VVS, Sachin and Sanjay. I put my way forward for the team. They wanted to know how do I plan to do well in all formats, how we should look at fast bowlers, and things of that sort,” Shastri told The Indian Express.

In the end, former India Test Captain Anil Kumble was chosen as the head coach on a one-year contract.
“I think Anil inherited a damn good team, a fantastic team in all formats. And his job would be to take it forward. I am proud of the boys and I would miss their company because I will treasure the joy and enjoyment they gave me in those 18 months,” Shastri told the Indian Express.
Shastri said he will be taking a break from cricket and will be going to West Indies not as a commentator for India’s tour of the country but for celebrating Sir Garry Sober’s 80th birthday.
