Khattar to meet city homebuyers next week

GURGAON: Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar will hold a meeting of the district grievance committee in Gurgaon on June 16 to lend an ear to residents, most of whom are homebuyers who are yet to get possession of flats even after paying most of their dues.

Most of the 22 grievances, which are likely to be resolved in the meeting, are related to delay in housing projects and irregularities in real estate projects. Encroachments on government land will also be discussed in the meeting, said sources.

Khattar, in April's grievance committee meeting, had directed that a committee be set up under the Gurgaon deputy commissioner to take stock of realty major Unitech's assets and liabilities within the country and abroad. In the upcoming meeting, around 500 homebuyers of AN Buildwell's Spirewood project in Sector 103 will meet the CM, seeking to end their housing woes. Though the problem was listed in May's meeting, it was not discussed owing to paucity of time.

"We hope this time the CM will listen to our grievances, and order directives to authorities concerned to resolve our problems," said Priti Nath of Spirewood Resident Association, a group of homebuyers who are fighting to get their flats.

Anil Kumar, one of the homebuyers, alleged he had booked flats in 2011, but the Spirewood project is far from over even after five years. "The company has stopped construction at the site for last two and a half years. All directors of the company have resigned and it is under liquidation," Kumar said.

An official of the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) said an FIR has already been filed against AN Buildwell for violating licence norms. "They had sold flats even before securing the nod to the building plan," DTCP official said.

Planning officer Jaibir Sharma said they had written to DTCP, seeking permission to intervene and stop the company's liquidation process to protect the interest of the buyers.

A spokesperson for AN Buildwell said the company is making efforts to complete the project. "There were some problems due to which the project was stopped. Now, we are working to revive and complete the project. The project can be revived as the company hasn't taken any loan from banks, and is free from liabilities," he said.
