Alastair Cook surpasses Sachin Tendulkar, becomes youngest to score 10,000 Test runs

Alastair Cook became the first English player to score 10,000 Test runs. Cook came into the series on the back of a splendid county run.

 

Alastair Cook took 228 innings to reach the milestone with 28 centuries and 47 half-centuries.

Alastair Cook became the youngest player to score 10,000 Test runs at the age of 31 years, five months and seven days. In the second innings of the second Test against Sri Lanka, Cook needed just five runs to reach the milestone which he did with a well played boundary off his pads. In the process he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record set in 2005.

The ‘Master Blaster’ was 31 years, 10 months and 20 days old when he scored his 10,000th run in 2005 against Pakistan.

Cook had missed the milestone by five runs during the first innings in Durham.

He is the 12th player to reach the milestone, and the first Englishman.
