After impressing everyone with back-to-back thrillers like Badlapur and Ahalya, actress Radhika Apte will once again be seen in Pawan Kriplani’s psychological thriller Phobia, which is releasing on May 27.

In conversation with the IndianExpress.com during a press conference of Phobia in Delhi, Radhika talks about her upcoming film Phobia, her experience of working with Rajnikanth in Tamil film Kabali directed by Pa. Ranjith, and winning the best actress award at the Tribeca film festival for Anurag Kashyap’s Madly, which made headlines a few months back when a nude clip from the film had been leaked online.

You will be next seen as Rajinikanth’s wife in Kabali. How was your experience working with the Thalaivar.
Radhika: Really good. I think he is one of my favourite actors/co-actors. He is extremely simple, humble and hardworking. He is a gem of a person. Very inspiring.

How is Rajinikanth on sets?
Radhika: All these adjectives that I have used.

Phobia is the first time you’re playing a solo lead in a Hindi film. Do you feel it will be a path-breaking film for you?
Radhika: That you’ll have to wait and see. I can’t tell you. We hope…or no, there’s no hope here (laughs)… whatever happens happens, we don’t care. From your mouth the God hears.

Festive offer

You seem so natural on screen, how do you prepare yourself for your role?
Radhika: We did a lot of research on panic attacks. We read a lot. We met psychologists, we met patients, we met doctors and a lot of other kind. We tried, we seated throughout the film, we had discussion on that sorted that we don’t dramatise it and make it more realistic.

You recently bagged the best actress award at Tribeca awards for Madly, what was your first reaction?
Radhika: I was alone at my room at 3 ‘o clock in the morning in Manali. So, I was just like ‘Is there anybody awake?’ and there was nobody awake. So, I was like its two more hours to call everyone and then i went back to sleep.

Given the controversy that ensued from the nude clip leak online from Madly, and then winning an award for the same movie, how does it feel?
Radhika: I don’t consider the first part at all. I didn’t do anything. I only react to the part that I got the award. If I had gotten it if the video wouldn’t have been leaked, would I feel less happy or what? How is it related? It’s not related.

Phobia hits the theatres on May 27.
