NEW DELHI: Talent demand in the automobile sector jumped by 3% in March 2016 even as other sectors held back hiring, reports TimesJobs.com's recruitment index, RecruiteX. This is in contrast to most other sectors that were engaged in financial year closing and in talent retention rather than focusing on new hiring.

The year 2016-17 began on a low note for most sectors, with an overall average 1% drop in talent demand. But sectors such as IT, telecom, BFSI and automobile witnessed positive momentum between March 2015 and March 2016, according to RecruiteX.

“During the start of the new financial year, organisations set new policies and frameworks and take stock of available and required resources. Hence hiring volumes are usually low. Whatever hiring takes place during this period is largely replacement hires or for niche profiles and roles. This trend is evident in the figures reported in the RecruiteX,” said Vivek Madhukar, COO of TimesJobs.com, which is owned by the Times Group.

Besides the auto sector, others like accounting, tax and consulting firms also posted an average rise of 2% in talent demand during the month, reported RecruiteX. Travel and hospitality and healthcare sectors, which were the top employment generators in February 2016, witnessed 15% and 10% cent drop in demand in March 2016, respectively.

According to RecruiteX, talent demand grew in small cities and towns with Vadodara posting the highest rise of 8% in March 2016. In the northeastern region, Sikkim, Manipur, Tripura and Assam also reported an average rise of 10% in hiring during the month. Kerala was the best-performing southern state with an average 8% rise in talent demand.
