Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail-owned lifestyle store Pantaloons is strengthening its online presence by partnering Snapdeal, one of the largest online marketplace. It has been steadily increasing its online presence in the past couple of months, despite the presence of Aditya Birla’s group’s online fashion portal — abof.com, which was launched last year.

Shital Mehta, CEO, Pantaloons, told BusinessLine , “We have started experimenting with e-commerce sites in the past six months and have been entering into partnerships with a number of sites, the latest being Snapdeal. We will put up our stores on this large marketplace as we expect it to help in garnering additional sales.’’

The big box fashion retailer is already selling its wares through sites like Amazon, Myntra, Jabong and Flipkart. It is also a part of the Aditya Birla group’s own sites like abof and trendin.

“abof is a different company set up by the Aditya Birla group and we will continue to be a part of it. But at the same time we want to be available with others and Snapdeal is the fifth e-commerce site that we have added,’’ he added.

In the recent past, established retailers have been partnering with leading e-commerce sites despite having their own independent online ventures. Shoppers’ Stop also announced a partnership with Snapdeal last year while Future Group (which owned Pantaloon in the past) is also retailing its private fashion labels through Amazon. Pantaloon, with its private brands such as Akkriti, Rangmanch, Trishaa, Anabelle and Honey, will now be sold through Snapdeal as part of its market place model. “We are now going to be dealing directly with Snapdeal and will not make the deal if it was not expected to help us. Today, we want to have an equal online presence between out group’s own sites as well as other big e-commerce players but revenues from the online sales are still very small,’’ he added.

The lifestyle retailer belonged to Kishore Biyani-owned Future Group till 2012 and was sold to the Aditya Birla group to pare debt. Today, it has 125 fashion stores across 64 cities.
