DGCA official inspects Kannur airport site
Kannur: As part of the runway inspection of the upcoming Kannur International Airport at Mattannur in the district, an official from the Directorate General of Civil Aviations (DGCA) visited the site on Saturday ahead of giving clearance for the trial landing.
The clearance inspection was done by aerodrome inspector from the DGCA, Y V Subramanyam, and there are no major issues raised by the official, according to Kannur International Airport (KIAL) officials.

The work is fast progressing and the 2400 metre runway is ready for the trial landing, they said.
“The official visited the operational area and conducted the inspection, and there are no difficult issues now, as the suggestions made by him can be complied with before the trial landing and we are fully prepared now,” said KIAL managing director G Chandramauli.
However, the date for the trial landing would be announced only after getting the official clearance from the DGCA, said the MD.
Though the work of 2400 metres runway has been completed, the trial landing would be held after marking a 1500-metre stretch, where a Code B aircraft with 19 seats would land.
The aircraft would come from Kozhikode airport for the landing and then go back there after the function.
However, the KIAL officials are also worried about the political turbulence in the State. Since the allegations and counter allegations over the solar scam have literally shaken the government, whether chief minister Oommen Chandy could be made available for the function is the question. Though it is tentatively fixed that the trial landing would be held on February 6, it depends on various factors now, they said.
According to KIAL officials, the airport could be commissioned in the second half of this year, most probably by Onam.
