National Capital Region Planning Board: Over Rs 3,000 cr loan for 9 projects in Noida, Ghaziabad and Haryana

According to NCRPB members, while these projects cost Rs 7,838 crore, the Board will support them with a total loan assistance of Rs 3,113 crore.

In a move aimed at reducing pollution and improving traffic, the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) Tuesday announced that it will support nine transport infrastructure projects in Noida, Ghaziabad and Haryana by providing a loan of over Rs 3,000 crore — the highest loan assistance approved in a single meeting of the board.

Two projects in Uttar Pradesh will receive Rs 2,287 crore while seven in Haryana will get Rs 726 crore. The decision was taken at a meeting of the NCRPB’s Project Sanctioning and Monitoring Group with senior officials from Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

According to NCRPB members, while these projects cost Rs 7,838 crore, the Board will support them with a total loan assistance of Rs 3,113 crore.

A 10.30 km-long six-lane elevated road, being developed by the Ghaziabad Development Authority, will receive Rs 700 crore — more than half of the project’s estimated cost.

“This road beginning near UP Gate and ending at Rajnagar Extension connects NH-24 with NH-58. It will serve as a bypass, ending traffic problems on Kaushambi-Mohan Nagar-Vaishali section. The Ghaziabad Development Authority intends to have a self-sustained urban settlement in the area, connected to adjacent areas through express traffic corridors. On completion of this project, travel time between UP Gate and Hindon Bridge is expected to come down from the present 50 minutes to about 15 minutes,” said a NCRPB statement.

Festive offer

The second project in UP to be partially funded by the board is the Noida-Greater Noida Metro project. Connecting City Junction in Noida Sector 71 with Depot Station in Sector 142, the project will receive Rs 1,587 crore against the total cost of Rs 5,533 crore.

“Seventy per cent of this line runs through Noida, which meets the rising demand for public transport, besides stimulating development in Greater Noida. This is subject to final approval by the government of India,” said the board.

In Haryana, the board plans to partially fund the construction of the Manesar-Palwal Expressway — a project which will “divert non-Delhi bound vehicles, resulting in substantial reduction in traffic and attendant pollution in Delhi”. Monitored by the Supreme Court, the project is expected to be completed in a year’s time.

In order to de-congest roads, the Board will also fund improvement projects like the Gurgaon-Pataudi-Rewari Road and an elevated road on NH-10 in Rohtak.
